Thunderbirds jump on LCC early, win 11-4

Hobbs, NEW MEXICO

The NMJC Thunderbirds baseball team jumped out to an early lead on Lamar Community College and captured an 11-4 victory on Friday at Ray Birmingham field.

The game was decided quickly as NMJC Thunderbirds exerted its will early with nine runs in the first three innings.

A two-run double by Zac Sanders and an RBI single by Jesse Becton during the first inning and an RBI double by Jimmy Cubillos, a groundout by Travon Benton, and an RBI double by Jeff Deimling in the second inning supplied the early offense for NMJC Thunderbirds .

Cubillos had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.

Blake Walden got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed four runs over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out eight, walked one and surrendered nine hits.

Alex DeBell took the loss for Lamar Community College. He allowed nine runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked five and struck out one.

NMJC Thunderbirds answered Lamar Community College's top inning with three runs of its own in the second.

NMJC Thunderbirds piled on three more runs in the bottom of the third. Cubillos doubled, scoring Larry Leitha to start the inning.

NMJC Thunderbirds matched its one-run fifth inning with one more in the sixth. In the fifth, the Thunderbirds scored on a solo home run by Leitha.
