Thunderbirds score 36 runs in double header sweep

GAME 1

NMJC Thunderbirds jumped out to an early lead on El Paso Community College and captured a 12-4 victory on Friday at NMJC.

Six runs in the first three innings allowed NMJC Thunderbirds to put the game away early.

A solo home run by Jesse Becton, a solo home run by Daniel Herrera, an RBI double by Angel De Jesus, and an RBI single by Luis Pintor during the second inning supplied the early offense for NMJC Thunderbirds .

NMJC Thunderbirds hit four home runs in the win. Additional home runs for NMJC Thunderbirds came when Jeff Deimling homered in the third inning and Pintor homered in the sixth inning.

Pintor racked up three RBIs on four hits for NMJC Thunderbirds .

Alex Pinedo recorded the win for NMJC Thunderbirds . He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out six, walked four and surrendered four hits.

Nathan Lainhart couldn't get it done on the hill for El Paso Community College, taking a loss. He allowed nine runs in five innings, walked two and struck out five.

NMJC Thunderbirds added five more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The inning looked promising, as Pintor homered, plating De Jesus to kick things off. That was followed up by Deimling 's single, bringing home Travon Benton.

GAME 2

A superb effort by Jesse Becton led NMJC Thunderbirds to a 24-13 win in six innings over El Paso Community College on Friday at NMJC.

Becton hit three home runs for NMJC Thunderbirds . Becton went 3-5 in the game with five RBIs and three runs scored. Becton homered in the first, fourth, and fifth innings.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 37 total runs and 34 hits during the game. There were six pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.

NMJC Thunderbirds beat El Paso Community College thanks to 20 hits, including 15 extra base hits. NMJC Thunderbirds scored nine runs in the fifth on NMJC Thunderbirds scored in the fifth on an RBI double by Eddy Vasquez, a two-run home run by Travon Benton, a two-run home run by Becton, a solo home run by Larry Leitha, a two-run home run by Kody Russell, and a walk by Jeff Deimling .

Eddie Varela got the win for NMJC Thunderbirds despite allowing five runs over 4 2/3 innings. Varela struck out none, walked five and gave up five hits.

NMJC Thunderbirds easily handled El Paso Community College pitching as seven hitters combined for 19 hits, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Additional home runs for NMJC Thunderbirds came when Trent Herman homered in the fourth inning, Leitha homered in the fourth and fifth innings, Becton homered in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, and Luis Pintor homered in the sixth inning.

Jesus Rodriguez was charged with the loss. He lasted just zero innings, walked two, struck out none, and allowed five runs.

In the top of the first, El Paso Community College grabbed the early lead, 4-0. Guillermo Loera started the rally for El Paso Community College with a single. Daniel Garcia singled, plating Ryan Pouwells. More runs came home for El Paso Community College when Loera and Garcia scored on a two-run single by Sergio Esparza and Nunez scored on an RBI double by Holy Anderson.

NMJC Thunderbirds quickly matched El Paso Community College's strong inning with a seven-run inning of its own in the first. NMJC Thunderbirds scored on an RBI single by Benton, an error, a two-run home run by Becton, a two-run single by Russell, and an RBI triple by Pintor.

El Paso Community College scored four runs in the second, due in large part to a solo home run off the bat of Sergio Esparza.

NMJC Thunderbirds piled on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The inning looked promising, as Russell doubled, scoring Herman to kick things off. That was followed up by Angel De Jesus's double, bringing home Russell.
