T-Bird golfers finish third

 

The New Mexico Junior College men's golf team finished third at the NJCAA Southwest Championship at the Tangle-wood Resort in Pottsboro, Texas Tuesday.

 

The Thunderbirds finished with a score of 883 after 54 holes. NMJC had its best round on the links Tuesday, finishing with a 285 team score, the best round of the day and the second best round of the tournament. Midland College was first with an 878 and Ranger College (879) was second. McLennan (279) had the best round on Monday, but finished tied for fourth overall with an 888.

 

Julius Kreutzer carded a 213 to finish third overall, two strokes back of the leader, Midland College's Callum Bruce (211). Right behind Kreutzer, in a tie for fourth place, was NMJC teammate Andrew Ni who shot a 216. Ni carded a 65 on Tuesday to move up 13 spots in the standings.

 

Zhane Chan shot a 77, finishing with a 227 and in a tie for 22nd while Hobbs graduate Tyler Cox turned in a 72, his best round of the tourney. Cox finished with a 228 and was tied for 25th. Harvey Hill shot a 75 to finish with a 233 to tie for 35th and Liam Duncan's 78 helped him turn in a 242 to finish tied for 44th.
