Junior College Basketball T-Birds conclude tourney in Arizona

The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team finished play in the Native American Classic on Saturday with a 99-69 win over Tohono O'odham Community College.

     "I'm really proud of our team and how we defended tonight.  We really shot the ball well all weekend and Tohono did a great job of running the tournament,"  T-Birds head coach Brian Lohrey said.  "I thank them for running a great tournament and having us come.  Really proud of this team and our 8-1 start."

     Roosevelt Smart led NMJC with 21 points, while Shawn Olden, Xabier Gomez and Damontrez Hawes each finished in double figures.  Olden also led the T-Birds in assists.

     NMJC now returns home for a 7 p.m. contest against North Lake College in its annual Thanksgiving Classic.
