T-Birds Defeat USW-JV

T-Birds obliterate USW JV

The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team put up 100 points for the second straight game and the third time this season Monday night when the Thunderbirds destroyed University of the Southwest JV 125-66 at Caster Activity Center.

The 125 points scored by the T-Birds on Monday was the most points NMJC has scored in a game this year. The 59-point victory was the team's largest of the season.

New Mexico Junior College led 53-30 at the end of the first half. In the second half, the T-Birds exploded, scoring more points in the 20 minutes, 72, that USW JV scored all game. The T-Birds had six players score in double figures, three starters and three off the bench. Franklyn Penn Jr. had a double-double as led all scorers with 24 points in addition to pulling down 18 rebounds. Marcell Haskett chipped in 20 points and Tavion Robinson finished with 14. Robinson came up one rebound shy of having a double-double. Off the bench, Xavier Thompson and Florian Ouedraogo each contributed 16 points while Jacob Bodin had 14. The JV Mustangs had four players in double figures. USW JV's top scorer was Keiron Morning with 19 points. Lamar Kane had 12 while Louis Jones finished with 10. Coming in off the bench, Jaylen Taulton chipped in 12 and Rudy Abrams had nine. With the win, NMJC improves to 10-3 on the season and 8-1 at home. The T-Birds will now have a few weeks off for Christmas break. NMJC will return to action next year when it travels to Dallas Baptist University to play McLennan Community College on Thursday, January 4. Play tips off at 2 p.m. (CST).
