T-Birds' Home Win Streak Ends vs South Plains

The New Mexico Junior College men s basketball team had its nine-game home winning streak come to an end Monday night as the Thunderbirds lost to South Plains College 69-58 at Caster Activity Center.

The Thunderbirds played from behind most of the game, leading only once and that was just by one point. NMJC got within one point of the Texans multiple times in the game, but couldn't get over the hump.

New Mexico Junior College trailed by two, 27-25, at the break. In the second half, NMJC was outscored 42-33.

Damontrez Hawes and Jacob Bodin, both playing off the bench, scored 11 points. Antonio Morales had eight points and seven rebounds while Franklyn Penn Jr. and Marcell Haskett each had six points.

With the loss, NMJC falls to 13-5 on the season and 2-2 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play. Next up for the Thunderbirds is a road trip to Clarendon College on Thursday.
