NMJC's Hall Elisias (33) can't handle a pass during a home game last week in Caster Activity Center. Elisias had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Thunderbirds in a 70-43 loss to Western Texas College Thursday in Snyder, Texas.

 

The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team suffered its first Western Junior College Athletic Conference loss of the season Thursday when the Thunderbirds lost to Western Texas College 70-43 in Snyder Texas.

 

The T-Birds we no match for the Westerners on Thursday. NMJC trailed 34-20 at the end of the first half and were outscored 36-23 in the second half.

 

Hall Elisias had a double-double to lead NMJC. Elisias finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He was the only T-Bird to have double figures in any statistics.

 

Malik Mooving chipped in seven points and five rebounds while handing out three assists and two steals. Deion Rhea had five points and eight boards along with two blocked shots. Gideon George chipped in seven points and eight rebounds off the bench. Darnell Rogers and Najja Hunter had five points each.

 

With the loss, NMJC falls to 13-4 on the season and 2-1 in WJCAC play. Next up for the T-Birds is a road trip to Levelland, Texas for a game against the No. 2 ranked team in NJCAA, South Plains College (13-1). Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
