T-Birds win 3rd straight

The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team pushed its record to 3-0 over the weekend with win over Phoenix College on Saturday night and then got a 76-62 win over Northern Oklahoma-Enid on Sunday.

Saturday night, NMJC beat Phoenix College 94-72. The Thunderbirds exploded for 53 points in the first half, taking a 53-35 lead into the break. NMJC didn't score as much in the second half, managing just 41 points, but it still outscored Phoenix College, which had 37 points.

The T-Birds had three players in double figures. Terence Lewis had a game-high 31 points while Keaton Hervey finished with 22. Gideon George had a double-double as he scored 18 points and had 14 rebounds.

Northern Oklahoma-Enid outscored the Thunderbirds 30-29 in the first half on Sunday, but NMJC's offense came alive in the second half as the T-Birds poured in 47 points. NMJC held the Jets to just 32 points in the second half to pull out the 14 point win.

George led all scorers with 22 points. The sophomore also pulled down 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Lewis also had a double-double for the T-Birds, scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 boards. Hervey added 16 points for NMJC.

Next up for the T-Birds is a rematch with Northern Oklahoma-Enid on Thursday, Nov. 14 when NMJC faces the Jets in the first round of the Chickfil-a Classic at the Stride Bank Center in Oklahoma.
