T-Birds beat Chaparrals

The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team won its second straight game Monday, beating Midland College 73-63 on the road.

The game was tied nine times, including 38-38 at the break, and had nine lead changes. NMJC trailed by as many as six points, 24-19, in the first half.

Midland got within five points, 50-45, of NMJC with 14:16 left in the second half. The T-Birds then responded with a 13-0 run to take control of the game. With 8:19 to play, NMJC led 63-45.

Gideon George led NMJC with 24 points while Keaton Hervey and Terence Lewis each chipped in 15. Mareng Gatkuoth finished with seven while Antonio Bridy had six points.

Amani Harris led Midland with a game-high 28 points. No other Chaparral finished in double figures.

With the win, NMJC improves to 16-6 on the season and moves to 6-2 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play. The T-Birds are tied with South Plains College (6-2) for second place in the WJCAC.

The T-Birds will be back on their home court Thursday when they play Western Texas College in Caster Activity Center.
