T-Birds take down Hawks

The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team rode a big second half to improve to 9-3 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play Monday night when the Thunderbirds beat the Howard Hawks 55-46 in Big Spring, Texas.

The game was close in the first half with just two points separating the two teams as the Hawks led the T-Birds 29-27. However, things changed in the second half. While the T-Birds stayed consistent with their offense, scoring 28 points in the half, the Hawks struggled, managing just 17 points.

Howard College's Klay Brown and Eric Reed Jr. tied for the game-high in scoring as each Hawk finished with 16 points. However, those were the only Hawks in double figures. No other Hawk had more than six points.

As for the T-Birds, NMJC had three players in double figures and another player come up just short thanks to a missed free throw.

Gideon George led the T-Birds with 12 points while Keaton Hervey and Antonio Bridy each had 10 and Terence Lewis finished with nine.

With the win, the T-Birds improve to 19-7 overall. Next up for NMJC will be a home game against South Plains College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Caster Activity Center
