NMJC MBB Go 2-1 at Wrangler Shootout Tournament

The T-Birds competed in the Wrangler Shootout this week hosted by Odessa College in Odessa, TX. The T-Birds went 2-1 in the tournament. 

Their first game was a close one as they beat Ranger College 81-80 on Wednesday with a buzzer beater three made by freshman Joosephat Bilau. Each T-Bird contributed to the score with sophomore Dannie Smith leading the team with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Following Smith is sophomore Jordan Booker with 14 points and freshman Dario Domingos with 13 points and 14 rebounds. 

The T-Birds went on to play NJCAA ranked #1 Salt Lake Community College on Thursday. The T-Birds kept up with Salt lake and gained a small lead in the second half. It was a tie game 67-67 with only a few seconds on the clock when Salt Lake hit a two at the buzzer ending the game 67-69. Leading the team in points was Dannie Smith with 17 points, followed by freshman Elijah Beard with 16 points. Josaphat Bilau grabbed 12 rebounds followed by sophomore Tommy Chatman with 10 rebounds. 

T-Birds recovered from their loss on Friday winning thier last game of the Wrangler Shootout against Trinity Valley 92-61. Top scorers for the T-Birds were Elijah Beard and Mouhamed Mbaye both with 15 points. Kenyoue Ondaan, Chance Groce, and Dannie Smith all contributed with 12 points each. 

The T-Birds will stay on the road November and December but will come back home to play Western Texas College in Caster Activity Center at 3:45PM MST, January 8th of 2022.
