Bio

Jordan (JB) Burton is entering his second season as the assistant men’s basketball coach at NMJC.

Burton joins the Thunderbirds after spending the 2021-22 season with NMJC head coach Luke Mackay at Neosho County Community College. There the Panthers improved their win total by 11 games in year one under Mackay. NCCC men's basketball advanced to the Region VI Semifinals and boasted the KJCCC's Freshman of the Year, two All-Region players, and a collective 3.15 GPA for the academic year.

Prior to his time in Chanute, Kan., Burton served as an assistant coach for two years under Hall of Fame coach Stu Engen at North Dakota State College of Science. There he helped lead the Wildcats to a 41-13 record. NDSCS finished as the Mon-Dak Conference runner-up twice and the Region XIII runner-up once in 2021.

In his two seasons at NDSCS, Burton helped develop two NJCAA All-Americans, two Region XIII MVPs and six All-Region XIII players. He was also 1-0 as a head coach, upsetting national qualifier Dawson Community College while filling in for Hall of Fame coach Stu Engen.

Before NDSCS, Burton was the head coach at Lockwood (MO) High School where the Tigers finished as the district runner-up. For the better part of a decade, Burton was also affiliated with AAU basketball program Victory Ministry (2017-21) and NCAA D2 program Drury University (2013-16).

Victory saw more than 30 players sign a National Letter of Intent in that time. At Drury, while assisting Steve Huber and Molly Miller on a volunteer basis, Burton helped the program to a 79-13 record in three seasons. This included a Midwest Regional championship, a GLVC Tournament championship, and three NCAA Tournament berths.

Burton is a graduate of Missouri State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Socio-Political Communications.
