Coach Mackay brings over 15 years of experience as a coach at various levels; high school, NBA, NCAA Division 1, and most recently as the head coach at Neosho County Community College (2021-22).

In one year at Neosho County, the program improved its win total by 11 games, produced a 3.2 team GPA, and was represented on the court by two First Team All-Conference players.

Mackay spent five years at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (2016-21), working closely with the late Lew Hill to elevate the basketball program to a consistent contender in the WAC, one that produced future professional players and college graduates.

Prior to UTRGV, Coach Mackay worked with legendary Coach Lon Kruger at the University of Oklahoma. During his two years at OU, the Sooners advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 (2015) and the Final Four (2016).

As an advance scout for the Orlando Magic (2013-14), Coach Mackay was responsible for evaluating upcoming opponents, creating and updating league-wide playbooks, and monitoring trends within NBA strategy.

Coach Mackay spent eight years as a high school coach and special education teacher in Texas, supervising multiple teams and coaches while also teaching.

Mackay is a graduate of Lon Morris College, East Carolina University, and the University of Oklahoma.

Coach Mackay is joined in Hobbs by his wife, Sarah, daughters Madeline and Ellie and son Marcus.
