DMR Breaks School Record, T-Bird (M-T&F) Qualifies 11 at Stan Scott & Multi

The T-Bird men's track and field team competed Jan. 30 - Feb. 1 at the Stan Scott & Multi in Lubbock, Texas.

NMJC finished the weekend with 11 new national qualifiers, four improved qualifiers, and one relay school record broken.

The T-Birds crushed the men's DMR school record on Friday with a time of 10:03.82. The squad consisted of Alexandre Fablet, Romain Toth, Erwan Darrieulat, and Killian LeBourhis. The record-breaking finish upends the 10:07.92 time set in 2024 by Cheruiyot, Reid, Bille, and Keter. NMJC slots in at No. 3 in the NJCAA with the finish. 

Sprinter Bovel McPherson had himself a weekend at the Stan Scott & Multi. The sophomore sprinter ran a 46.19 to improve as a national qualifier in the 400. The run is .09 seconds off the school record and ranks No. 1 in the NJCAA for the event. McPherson followed up that performance with a national standard in the 200m where he breached the finish line in 21.06. His finish is No. 3 in JUCO.  

Benjamin Nsiah had a massive 1.79 second improvement in the 400m race compared to Week 1. The freshman ran a 46.85 in the race which ranks him No. 2 in the NJCAA for the event. Nsiah also qualified nationally in the 200m with a time of 21.46. The finish is No. 15 in JUCO.

Sophomore TK Pahuwa nationally qualified in the 400m as he finished with a 46.89 in the race. The time is 1.79 seconds quicker than his Week 1 race and is ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA.

The trio of McPherson, Nsiah, and Pahuwa are ranked 1-3 in the 400m and look to sweep the podium for the second straight nationals. Donald Chiyangwa, Bovel McPherson, and Aymane El Haddaoui finished 1-2-3 at the 2024 NJCAA Outdoor T&F National Championships.

Another trio of T-Birds nationally qualified in Lubbock, this time in the 800m. Romain Toth came across the finish line in 1:52.73 for an NJCAA rank of No. 9. Adolf Kauba was right behind his teammate Toth as he finished the race in 1:53.69 to rank No. 14 in JUCO. Cyprien Bille was the final qualifier with his finish of 1:54.24. The time is No. 18 in the NJCAA.

Ilias Arifi competed in the heptathlon for the first time this weekend at Texas Tech. The freshman scored 4795 points to rank No. 4 in the NJCAA for the event. Newcomer Jonathan Da Silva also competed in the heptathlon scoring 4744 points. Da Silva is one spot back of Arifi ranked No. 5 in JUCO for the event.

Johnathon Rodgers improved by .51m on his national mark in the triple jump with a leap of 15.35m. He moves into the No. 4 position for JUCO in the triple. 

Newcomer Alexandre Fablet qualified for nationals in the mile with a time of 4:13.31. The finish is No. 9 in the NJCAA. Killian LeBourhis also met the standard in the race coming across the line in 4:13.50. LeBourhis ranks No. 11 in the NJCAA. 

Shamarie Roberts was an improved qualifier by .02 seconds in the 60m following a 6.78 run. The time is No. 18 in the NJCAA

Distance runner Brian Cheruiyot became a national qualifier in the 3000m with a time of 8:37.88. The finish is No. 23 in JUCO.

Sophomore Joao Dalandrea met the national mark in the weight throw with a toss of 16.08m. The throw is No. 7 in the NJCAA.  

The Thunderbirds drop one spot to No. 3 in the USTFCCCA Track & Field Men's Rating Index.

NMJC has a week off before competing at the Jarvis Scott Open Feb. 14-15 in Lubbock, Texas at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
