The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team traveled to Temple College Monday night and won 72-47.
"There were a lot of missed opportunities in the first quarter in transition that kept the game close through one quarter," Lady T-Birds coach Drew Sanders said. "We defensively held them to one point in the second quarter and that's where we really took control of the game. In the third period, we exploded for 24 points and expanded the lead. Then we were able to play our whole bench in the fourth quarter."
Alarie Mayze led NMJC with 10 points, while Daiane Machado added eight. Dezirae Hampton and Ni'Asia McIntosh each chipped in seven and Laurynn McGowen finished with six points.
The Lady Thunderbirds (8-2) return to action Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the road at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.
