The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team opened action in the Salt Lake Classic Friday night with an 83-79 loss to the College of Southern Idaho.
"We trailed most of the game, we'd get down four or six and then tie it back up," Lady Thunderbirds head coach Drew Sanders said. "We never took the lead. We tied the game for probably the last time with about a minute and twelve seconds to go. We turned the ball over on two straight possessions and then they went down and hit some freethrows and extended lead and that's where the final score came from."
Ni'Asia led the Lady Thunderbirds (10-4) with 21 points, while Daiane Machado scored 20 and Deezirae Hampton chipped in 12 points. Ekaterina Zhibareva added eight and Laurynn McGowen finished with seven points to round out the top performers.
