JC women, men handle league foe Clarendon

The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team dominated on the court Monday, beating Clarendon College 75-42. There was only on quarter of play where the scoring was close, and that was the second quarter.

NMJC doubled up Clarendon 22-11 in the first quarter, before playing a close second quarter, the Lady Thunderbirds outscored Clarendon 20-10 in the third and 20-9 in the fourth.

Three members of the NMJC women's team scored in double figures. Alarie Mayze had a game-high 15 points while Dezirae Hampton chipped in 11. Laurynn McGowen contributed 12 points while playing off the bench. Ni'Asia McIntosh and Daiane Machado each had eight points for NMJC while Ekaterina Zhibereva turned in seven. On the glass, Natalia Gwarda had 10 rebounds for the Lady Thunderbirds.

With the win, NMJC has now won four straight. The Lady Thunderbirds improve to 14-4 on the season and 3-1 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play. NMJC will be back on the hardwood Monday when it travels to Midland to face the Chapparrals.
