The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team overcame a fourth-quarter deficit Thurdsay night to defeat Midland college 66-62 at Caster Activity Center.

"We were able to come from behind in the fourth quarter just because of the press," NMJC head coach Drew Sanders said. "It was a big win just from the sense of all of the things that have happened and the mindset of the team right now. For them to come back in the fourth quarter like that showed a lot of heart."

Daiane Machado led the way with a game-high 15 points, while three other Lady T-Birds were in double figures. Alarie Mayze tallied 14 points, followed by Laurynn McGowen with 13 points and Ni'Asia McInotsh with 10 points.

As a team, NMJC didn't shoot the ball very well as it sank 22-75 for 29.3 percent from the floor. Midland College diddn't fare much better though, making 21-58 for the 36.2 percent.

The Lady Chaparrals, however, turned the ball over 27 times and the Lady T-Birds capitalized by scoring 25 points off the miscues. Both teams each finished with 40 rebounds, while NMJC outscored Midland college 26-22 in the paint.

The Lady T-Birds (19-7 overall, 8-4 Western Junior college Athletic Confrerence) wrap up the regular season at 5:45 p.m. Monday as they host Frank Phillips College.
