Loss drops Lady T-Birds to No. 5 spot

A loss to an unranked team cost the New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team four spots in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association rankings Tuesday. The NMJC women dropped from No. 2 in the country to No. 5 following a loss to Odessa College last week.

 

Undefeated Shelton State (24-0) held on to the top spot while Gulf Coast State moved up two spots to No. 2. Jones County also moved up two spots, taking over the No. 3 ranking while Northwest Florida State slipped one spot to No. 4.

(22-0) moved up one sport to No.

 

6 while Tallahassee slipped one spot to No. 7. Trinity Valley remained at No. 8. Salt Lake also moved up a spot, coming in at No. 9 and Seward County climbed two spots to No. 10.

 

Cochise climbed three sports, moving into the No. 11 spot while Wabash Valley fell out of the top 10 to No.

 

12. After losing to NMJC last week, Frank Phillips slipped from the 11th spot to No. 13 while Collin County and Hutchinson each climbed two spots. Collin County comes in at No. 14 and Hutchinson at 15. Pensacola State fell three spots to 16 and Florida SouthWestern State fell one spot to No. 18. ASA Brooklyn (17-0) moved up two spots to No. 18 while Casper and North Dakota SCS each climbed three spots. Casper currently occupies the No. 19 ranking and North Dakota SCS comes in at No. 20.

 

Walters State climbed four spots to No. 21 while Cowley had the biggest fall of all, tumbling seven spots to No.

 

22. Northern Oklahoma Enid slipped six spots in the rankings, falling to No. 25.

 

Two new teams entered the rankings this week, Jacksonville (15-3) and Iowa Western (19-4). Jacksonville enters the rankings at No. 23 while Iowa Western is ranked No. 24.

 

Other teams to receive votes, but not make the top 25 include Angelina, Snow, South Georgia Tech, Vincennes, and Western Nebraska. The two teams that fell out of the top 25 are Panola and Southern Idaho.
