Lady T-Birds move up to No. 4 in latest poll
Following two straight weeks at No. 5, the New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team is on the move as the Lady Thunderbirds moved up one spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association Top 25 rankings.
New Mexico Junior College (24-1) currently sits at No. 4 in the nation.
The top two teams remained the same with Shelton State (27-0) at No. 1 and Gulf Coast State (20-2) at No. 2. Northwest Florida State (22-2) also moved up one spot, taking over the No. 3 spot that was vacated by Jones County. The Lady Bobcats lost on Thursday last week and that dropped them to No. 7 in the rankings. Moberly Area College moved up one spot to No. 5 after improving to 25-0.
Seward County, Cochise, and Trinity Valley each jumped two spots. Seward County (23-2) is at No. 6 while Cochise (23-2) is at No. 8. Trinity Valley (22-3) comes in at No. 9 while Tallahassee (19-5) slipped one spot to No. 10.
Wabash Valley and Collin County each climbed one spot to No. 11 and No. 12 while Salt Lake took a big hit and fell six spots to No. 13. ASA Brooklyn (18-0), the only other undefeated team outside of Shelton State and Moberly Area, climbed two spots to No. 14. Casper also moved up two spots, coming in at No. 15.
With a record of 23-2, North Dakota SCS moved up three spots, taking over the No. 16 ranking while Walters State (20-5) did the same, coming in at No. 17. Iowa Western moved up four spots to No. 18 and Florida South-Western State fell four spots to No. 19. Frank Phillips (19-4), which plays in the Western Junior College
Athletic Conference with NMJC, slipped two spots to No. 20.
Vincennes and Panola each moved up three spots. Vincennes (19-4) is now ranked No. 21 while Panola (20-4) is at No. 22. Hutchinson had the biggest tumble of the week, falling nine spots to No.
23.
New to the rankings this week are Snow and Northerastern Oklahoma A&M. Snow is ranked No. 24 while Northerastern Oklahoma A&M is at No. 25.
Falling out of the top 25 this week were Northern Oklahoma Enid and Jacksonville. Northern Oklahoma Enid was 23 while Jacksonville was
21. Northern Oklahoma Enid is still among the six schools to be receiving votes.
The other schools to be receiving votes include Eastern Florida State, Hartford, Odessa College, South Georgia Tech, and Western Nebraska.
Of all the teams in the Top 25, Snow has the most losses of any school with six. There are six teams with fewer than 20 wins. At 16-3, Jones County has won the fewest games while undefeated ASA Brooklyn has played the fewest games. NMJC is the only team with one loss.
