The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team got another win Saturday when the Lady Thunderbirds beat Northeast Nebraska Community College 83-46.

 

"I felt like we played really, really well today," NMJC coach Drew Sanders said. "I thought our half court execution was good. O u r defense could have been better, but it was still pretty good. The game was close the first quarter as NMJC led by just five points,

 

19-14, after the opening 10 minutes. In the second quarter, NMJC's offense picked it up a bit, taking a 40-27 lead into halftime.

 

We couldn t get any real separation in first half. They kept it around 10 points," Sanders said. "We exploded in the third and fourth quarters to really, really open it up."

 

When play resumed in the second half, the Lady T-Birds came out on fire. NMC scored 21 points while holding Northeast Nebraska to just nine. NMJC then scored a game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter while limiting Northeast Nebraska to just 10.

 

Sydnee Wynn led the Lady T-Birds with 20 points. Laci Hawthorne had 17 while Eternati Willock chipped in 15 and Jurnee President had 11. Myra Caicedo and former Hobbs Lady Eagle Amaya Lewis each had six points.

 

The Lady Thunderbirds will be off for the rest of the year. NMJC will return to action on January 1 at 5 p.m. (CST) in Bossier City, Louisiana.

 

"We ended the first semester at 11-2," Sanders said. "Our next action is going to be January 1st and 2nd at Bossier, Louisiana. We will be playing Kilgore and Bossier City Community College."
