Thunderbird Women Dominate Kilgore 72-47

One day after needing overtime to start 2019 with a win, the New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team cruised to its second win in as many day, blasting Kilgore College 72-47 in Bossier City, Louisiana.

With the win, NMJC improves to 13-2 on the season. The Lady Thunderbirds will now prepare for a road game against Western Junior College Athletic Conference for Western Texas College in Snyder on Thursday, January 10. Tip off is slated for 5:45 p.m.

New Mexico Junior College jumped out to a 20-14 lead in the first 10 minutes of play. Entering the second quarter with a six-point lead, the Lady T-Birds were able to extend their lead to 11 points. NMJC scored 14 points, its lowest quarter score of the game, while holding Kilgore to just nine points. NMJC led 34-23 at the break.

Things continued to flow in favor of NMJC in the second half. The Lady T-Birds pushed their 11-point lead to 16 after outscoring Kilgore 16-11 during the third quarter. Over the final 10 minutes of play, the Lady T-Birds had their best offensive quarter of the game, pouring in 22 points. During the same time period, Kilgore managed just 13 points.

The Lady Thunderbirds had four players score in double figures Wednesday afternoon. Eternati Willock led the Lady T-Birds with 16 points while Sydnee Wynn finished with

15. Thamires Andrade contributed 11 as did Jurnee President. Laci Hawthorne finished with six points and Hobbs graduate Amaya Lewis chipped in four.

New Mexico Junior College has just two road games left on its lengthy road schedule, and both of them are conference games. After playing at Western Texas next week, the Lady T-Birds will head to Levelland on Monday, January 14. NMJC will return home to Caster Activity Center on Thursday, Jan. 17 when it hosts Clarendon College.
