Three games into the season and the New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team is off to a good start. After routing Phoenix College on Friday and then slipping by Central Arizona College on Saturday, the Lady Thunderbirds crushed Tyler Junior College 91-54 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady T-Birds took control of the game in the first quarter, exploding for 25 points while holding Tyler to just two buckets and a pair of free throws, that came at different points in the quarter. NMJC opened the game on a 9-0 run and closed out the quarter on a 10-0 run.

Things were more evenly matched in the second quarter, but NMJC still extended its lead, going into the break leading 44-24. The Lady T-Birds continued to increase their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Tyler 19-15. Leading 63-39 to start the final 10 minutes of play, NMJC had its best offensive quarter of the game, pouring in 28 points. Tyler managed just 15.

Dawnyel Lair led NMJC with 20 points and was one rebound shy (nine) of a double-double. Amaya Lewis, a 2018 Hobbs graduate, scored 17 points to go with four assists, three rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot. Zaria Dorsey chipped in 12 points off the bench. Eliana Cabral had nine points and eight rebounds for the Lady T-Birds.
