Lady T-Birds lose second straight

The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team lost its second game in as many days Saturday. After falling to Grayson College 74-73 in overtime on Friday, the Lady Thunderbirds lost to Trinity Valley Community College 73-48.

The Lady Thunderbirds scored 24 points in the first 10 minutes of play, then scored a combined 24 points over the next 30 minutes.

New Mexico Junior College took the early leading, jumping out in front 24-18 after the first 10 minutes. However, the Lady T-Birds couldn't hold it as Trinity Valley added another 18 points in the second quarter and NMJC managed just nine. At the break, NMJC trailed 36-33.

The Lady T-Birds' offensive struggles continued in the second half as NMJC scored just six points in the third quarter while adding nine in the fourth. As for Trinity Valley, it scored 24 points in the third and 13 in the fourth.

Ebony Horton led the Lady T-Birds with 15 points while Dawnyel Lair had 10. Hobbs graduate Amaya Lewis chipped in five points.

With the loss, NMJC falls to 4-2 on the season. The Lady T-Birds will be back in action Monday when they host the University of Southwest JV squad at Caster Activity Center. Tipoff is at 5:45 p.m.
