New Mexico Junior College's Dawnyel Lair came up big for the women's basketball team last week as the sophomore helped the No. 12 ranked Lady Thunderbirds knocked off two previously undefeated top 5 NJCAA teams.

Playing their first game of 2020, after trailing all game, the Lady T-Birds rallied from a fourth quarter deficit to beat No. 4 ranked Northwest Florida State College 50-48. The Lady T-Birds did not have any players in double figures, but Lair was one of three players to score nine points. She also finished with four rebounds, five steals, and a blocked shot.

On Thursday, Lair recorded a double-double for NMJC, leading the Lady T-Birds with 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a 74-71 win over No. 3 Trinity Valley. Lair also had two assists, a steal, and a blocked shot.

New Mexico Junior College (11-4) will be back at home on Thursday when the Lady T-Birds host Howard College in a Western Junior College Athletic Conference game. Tipoff is at 5:45 p.m.
