T-Bird women win at Howard

The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team got back in the win column Monday night when the Lady Thunderbirds beat Howard College 62-46 on the road.

The Lady T-Birds built up a 17-12 lead in the first quarter and then pushed it to 36-22 at the break. The game was much closer in the second half, but the Lady T-Birds were still able to extend their lead. NMJC outscored Howard College 11-10 in the third quarter and 15-14 in the fourth.

Ebony Horton had a game-high 14 points for the Lady T-Birds while Amaya Lewis, a Hobbs High School graduate, chipped in 13 while playing off the bench. Dawnyel Lair pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for NMJC.

With the win, NMJC improves to 16-7 on the season and 7-3 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play. The Lady T-Birds will be back in action Thursday when they host South Plains College at 5:45 p.m. in Caster Activity Center.
