T-Bird (W-Golf) Finishes 11th in Oklahoma

The NMJC women's golf team finished in 11th place at the Oral Robert Spring Invite on Tuesday, April 9.

The Thunderbirds shot 55-over to post a 54-hole total of 919 in the DI tournament. The T-Birds defeated three DI teams this week and beat the lone NJCAA entry by 107 strokes.

Nanami Hayakawa was the top finisher at 12-over par. The freshman placed T-26 after shooting rounds of 77-74-77 for a 54-hole total of 228. The Nagano, Japan native recorded eight birdies over the course of the three rounds.  

Olivia Heard went 75-79-75 to finish in a tie for 31st at 13-over par. Heard's three-round total was 229. The Englishwoman's final round consisted of three bogeys and 15 pars.    

Freshman Wawa Booncharn's impressive play continued in Pointed Arrow, Okla. Booncharn recorded rounds of 75-74-81 to post a 54-hole total of 230. The Bangkok, Thailand native was one shot behind her teammate Heard at 14-over.

Hinano Kishida, fresh off her win at the USW Spring Invitational, went 78-77-77 (232) to finish T-39 at 16-over. Kishida had a tough time making birdies this week as she only recorded three at The Club at Indian Springs.

Freshman Ashleigh Johnson rounded out the team scoring in 75th place. The Reedsburg, Wis native was 35-over and shot 86-81-84 for a three-round total of 251.

Talyssa Griner was the highest independent (indy) finisher in 80th place. Griner shot 85-88-91 (264) to finish at 48-over par.

Kyleigh McGowen placed 82nd recording rounds of 90-84-94 (268) to shoot 52-over for the tournament. Gabrielle Perez finished in 85th place at 68-over par going 94-93-97 for a 54-hole total of 284.   

The Thunderbirds earned a much needed break and will have a few weeks off before the Southwest District Golf Tournament on April 29-30.
