The first poll of the outdoor track and field season was released Wednesday and the defending national outdoor champion Lady Thunderbirds are sitting at the top. NMJC, which is coming off its second consecutive indoor national championship, took the top spot in the US Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association poll with 589.5 points.

 

Central Arizona, which finished fifth last season, is second (587.29) while South Plains College (529.30) is third. Iowa Central (524.98) is fourth and Barton Community College in Kansas (413.83) is ranked fifth.

 

Jacobs named USTFCCCA

 

Athlete of the Week

 

New Mexico Junior College's Teresha Jacobs ran in the Texas State Bobcat Invitational last week, taking part in the steeplechase. The NMJC sophomore finished second overall with a time of 11 minutes and 10.89 seconds. Jacobs' run was better than several NCAA Division I competitors and was a qualifying mark for the NJCAA national meet at the end of the season.

 

Jacobs and the rest of her teammates will be back at it this weekend when the Lady T-Birds take part in the West Texas Classic in Canyon, Texas on Friday and Saturday.
