NMJC Women Open the Season Ranked #1 in Outdoor Track and Field

NMJC Women Open the Season Ranked #1 in Outdoor Track and Field

It's going to be another tightly contested battle for the national team title between New Mexico JC and Barton (Kan.) CC.

The Thunderbirds have the No. 1 spot to begin the season thanks to 15 marks that are ranked in the top-5 nationally. NMJC has the top-ranked pole vaulter (Victoria Villanueva), long jumper (Kristal Liburd) and 4×100 relay team. Siyu Gu (discus), Monique Grant (long jump) and Demisha Roswell (100H) own second-ranked marks in the early goings.

The Cougars have 12 top-5 marks of their own, led by Yoveinny Mota in the 100H and the 4×400 relay team, both of which are ranked No. 1 nationally. T'Nia Riley is a threat in both the 100 and 200 (She is ranked in the top-5 in both), while Cadeebra Calcote (800), Latavia Maines (shot put) and Christal Mosley (400) are all strong in their respective events.

Central Arizona sits third in the first National Rating Index. The Vaqueras own four top-ranked marks in the country: Devia Brown in both the discus throw and shot put (Brown also holds the NJCAA record in the shot put), Nicolee Foster in the 400H (1:03.78) and Regina Yeboah in the heptathlon (4643).

South Plains (Texas) and Iowa Central CC are further off the pace at No. 4 and No. 5 to begin the season. The Texans and the Tritons are followed by Cowley (Kan.), Cloud County (Kan.) CC, Western Texas, Mesa (Ariz.) CC and Paradise Valley (Ariz.) CC in the top-10.
