Lady T-Birds set two track records

The New Mexico Junior College women's track and field team had another stellar showing over the weekend as the Lady Thunderbirds excelled in Lubbock. The NMJC women had six new national qualifiers along with five improved qualifiers. Additionally, the Lady T-Birds set two new school records.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Demisha Roswell finished in 8.18 seconds, improving her national qualifying mark while setting a new NMJC record. Then, in the 800-meters, Flomena Asekol turned in a time of 2:08.63. Asekol's time qualified her for the national meet while also setting a new NMJC record.

As for the rest of NMJC's new qualifiers, Asekol ran the 600 yards in 1:24.77 while Britnie Dixon finished in 1:25 85, earning both Lady T-Birds a spot in the national meet. Nadine Rose turned in a time of 2:23.24 in the 800-meters while Gladys Koech ran a 19:20.56 in the 5,000-meters. Finally there was Brianna Brock in the weight throw. Brock had a throw of 49-feet, 11-inches to qualify.

Then there was Yanique Dayle and Kelliesha King, both of whom improved their times in the 60-meters. Dayle ran a 7.43 while King had a time of 7.61. Dayle also improved her time in the 200-meters, finishing in 24.51 seconds. Dixon improved her time in the 800-meters with a time of 2:16.07.

While the Thunderbirds also performed well, they were quite as successful this week. NMJC's men did not have any new national qualifying marks, but did have six improved marks.

In the 200-meters, Imon Bell ran a time of 21.30 seconds while Ramone Lindo finished in 21.30 seconds. The other four improved times came in the400-meters. Victor Akhalu finished in 47.73 seconds while Dre'Shaun Sanders had a time of 48.08 seconds. Lindo turned in a time of 48.21 seconds and Avon Rouse finished in 48.91 seconds.

Next up for the NMJC indoor track and field team it the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier on Friday.
