Salas-Lozano Breaks Outdoor Shot Put School Record Again

The NMJC women's track & field team finished with four improved national standards, one broken school record, and one new national qualifier April 12-13 at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla.

The field athletes stole the show at the University of Oklahoma this week.  

The T-Bird's Esteisy Salas-Lozano broke the outdoor school record in the shot put for the second time this season. Salas-Lozano bested her previous record by .10m with a throw of 15.12m. The toss is No. 2 in the NJCAA this year, but No. 1 in the NJCAA for the outdoor season. 

Tania Millena Ancelmo Da Silva was an improved qualifier by 3.29m with his 55.73m throw in the hammer. Millena Ancelmo Da Silva is over five meters in front of her nearest competitor as she stands alone at No. 1 in the NJCAA for the event.

Anisha Gibbons and Bruna Vieira de Jesus each had their personal best throws of the spring this week in Norman. Gibbons threw the javelin 3.72m further than at the Texas Relays to make a mark of 49.44m. The improved qualifying throw is No. 1 in the NJCAA for the event. 

Bruna Vieira de Jesus improved on her qualifying mark by 1.38m with her 48.36m throw. The toss is holding strong at No. 3 in the NJCAA. 

Kamaria Knight was the lone national qualifier for NMJC in Oklahoma. Knight ran a 24.13 in the 200m to slide herself into the No. 14 spot in the NJCAA for the event. The freshman sprinter ran a 23.65 the week prior at the Jo Meaker Classic and Multi, but the race was not wind legal. 

The Thunderbirds are ranked No. 1 in Week 4's NJCAA DI Women's Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index.

The T-Birds will travel to Waco, Texas April 19-20 to compete in the Michael Johnson Invitational at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
