Bio

Tabarie Henry rejoined the Thunderbird track & field team as the assistant track & field coach in July of 2023. Coach Henry will primarily deal with the sprints and hurdles athletes at NMJC.  

Coach Henry spent the 2022-23 track season with the UNLV Rebels. There he coached four indoor conference finalists to top 8 finishes in the (2x)60m, 200m, and 4x400m. During the outdoor season, he had two Rebel athletes make Mountain West All-Conference (Alia Scott and Jana Alkner). Scott earned Mountain West bronze medalist honors in the 400mH. Henry coached four outdoor conference finalists to top 8 finishes in the (2x)100m, 400m, and 400mH.

Coach Henry is currently overseeing the training of 2022 World Championship qualifier Mulern Jean. The Haitian competes in the 100mH (12.79) and the 60mH (8.16).

Henry spent three seasons with the T-Birds from 2019-2022 before leaving to take a DI assistant job at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) in the summer of 2022. The 2023-24 season at NMJC will be his fourth season overall with the Thunderbirds. 

Coach Henry is a former NCAA champion and two-time Olympian. He has an extensive track career, which includes competing for the U.S. Virgin Islands in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Henry was able to reach the 400m semifinals at both games. He placed fourth in the event at the 2009 IAAF World Championship in Berlin, Germany and followed the performance up with a seventh place finish at the 2011 IAAF World Championship in Daegu, South Korea. He was ranked as one of the top 15 400m runners in the world from 2008-2012. 

While a student-athlete at Texas A&M University, Henry was a back-to-back team national champion (2010, 2011) and the 2011 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field champion in the 600-yard run and 4x400M.

Henry coached one season in 2018-19 at Hawkeye Community College in Iowa. Henry helped coach 15 national qualifiers, 12 school record holders and had four All-Americans in his lone season coaching at Hawkeye Community College.  

Before Hawkeye, Coach Henry coached at the Peak Performance Training Center, the Shed Performance Center, and Cedar Park High School, all in Austin, Texas. He also has coaching and training experience from Texas A&M University and the University of Alabama.

He is a 2012 graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture leadership and development and a minor in sports management. Henry earned an associate degree from Barton County Community College in 2009.
