Lehocky Will Lead New Volleyball Program at NMJC

(Hobbs) New Mexico Junior College is proud to announce the hiring of Alexandra Lehocky as the new and first head volleyball coach.  The program will open up in the fall of 2019 under Lehocky's leadership and direction.

"We are very pleased with the opportunity to bring in such a high quality person and coach to begin the volleyball program here at NMJC", said Deron Clark, NMJC's Director of Athletics.  "The beginning success of our program will lean heavily on Lehocky's vision and guidance, and I am very excited to see her success develop in such a strong volleyball conference as the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC)."

Lehocky will arrive on campus in early January. Her recruiting process is currently in progress as she begins to build her roster for 2019.

Coach Alex Lehocky was born and raised in New Mexico. She is joining the Thunderbirds from her prior four-year coaching time at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO. Coach Lehocky played at Otero Junior College where she graduated with Cum Laude Honors, then transferred to play in New Hampshire. After a year in New Hampshire, she moved back to Colorado where she started her coaching career and finished her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, also graduating with Cum Laude Honors. Immediately after graduation with Colorado Mesa, Coach Lehocky obtained her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification in hopes of working closely with all athletes.

Coach Lehocky was hired to coach the Plainsmen in 2015. During this time she was working towards her Masters of Science in Kinesiology, concentration in Sports Conditioning through A.T. Still University. Throughout her first coaching year at Northeastern, she helped coach a team who upset the top ranked team in the country, and coached 2x Libero of the Year, and 3 All-Tournament and All-Region players. The following three seasons at Northeastern she continued to have success with athletes by helping coach the Region IX Freshman of the Year (2016 & 2017), Region IX Player of the Year (2017 & 2018), Region IX Setter of the Year (2017 & 2018), Region IX tournament MVP (2018), multiple Region IX All-Region and All-Tournament players (2016, 2017, & 2018), three All-Americans (2017 & 2018), and coached under the 3x Region IX Coach of the Year (2016, 2017, & 2018).  She ended her time at Northeastern by winning the 2018 Region IX Championship and playing in the 2018 NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS.
