The NMJC Thunderbird Cross Country team continued the 2019 season at the Western Texas College Open in Snyder, TX.

The men's team picked up the victory over the other region schools at the meet. "It was nice to see the men win the meet" commented Coach Becker. The women's team finished a strong 2nd losing to South Plains by just 6 points. "We had a goal to win on both sides, the men were able to get it done and the ladies were close". "This was a good meet for us to see a lot of our region competition on the course that regionals will be held in late October".

Freshman Flomena Asekol picked up her second consecutive victory in this early season. "I am very proud of Flomena" commented Coach Becker. "This course is a very tough course and she ran the fastest time I have seen run on it". Also, in the Top 10 for the Lady T-Birds were Montserret Rios, Britnie Dixon, and Gladys Koech.

On the men's side, Baptiste Derpil-Dupre led the way for the T-Birds with a strong 2nd Place finish. "Baptiste had a great week of training and it paid off for him" added Coach Becker. Also, in the Top 10 for the T-Birds were Victor Kibet and Victor Saldana.   

            

 

NEXT UP: The T-Birds will travel to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Texas Tech Invitational on Saturday, September 21st.
