Bio

Mike Nesbitt joined the New Mexico Junior College staff as Assistant Coach in July 2019. He joins New Mexico JC after stops at Panola College (2018-2019), Southern Utah University (2017-2018), and the University of New Mexico (2016-2017).

Last season at Panola, a member of Region XIV, Nesbitt was a part of a staff that helped the Ponies to a 23-9 record and second place finish in Region XIV. He recruited and coached four players that ended up signing Division 1 (Cleveland State, Prairie View A&M, Mississippi Valley State, and South Carolina State). Nesbitt was the Ponies Academic Coordinator and oversaw a team GPA of a 3.0 in the Fall Semester, which was the highest in the Grant McMillan era at Panola. He was also the Offensive Coordinator- implementing an attack that averaged over 82 points per game. Nesbitt oversaw the Strength and Conditioning program and was in charge of the guards skill development.

In his lone season at Southern Utah, Nesbitt was a part of a staff that nearly tripled their Division 1-win total from the previous season and appeared in the school’s first semifinal contest at the Big Sky Tournament. Nesbitt was in charge of preparing opponent scouting reports and film edits. He was also the lead skill developer for the forwards, who as a group combined to average 35 points and 18 rebounds on 52% shooting. Nesbitt also assisted with team academics, served as the Housing Coordinator, and implemented various types of media to help market and grow the program.

Prior to Southern Utah, Nesbitt spent one season as a Graduate Assistant at the University of New Mexico. That season he assisted in all aspects of on-court coaching, prepared film edits, and organized and lead individual workouts.

Nesbitt played three seasons at Missouri S&T (D2) before transferring to UNM for his final season of eligibility. He started his prep career at Evansville Memorial High School where he was a Second Team-All Area selection as a sophomore and First Team All-Conference as a junior. He completed his high school career at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana.

Nesbitt obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Missouri S&T and a Finance MBA from the University of New Mexico.
