Pierce Powers T-Birds to Win Over USW (JV)

NMJC took down local foe USW (JV) 15-5 on Monday afternoon. 

Catcher Peyton Pierce led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run in just his second plate appearance of the year.  NMJC scored a run on a bases loaded walk, two runs on an error, a wild pitch, a 2-run homer by Talan Barraza, and then to top it off another solo homer in the first by Pierce to make the score 8-0 after the first.

USW scored in the top of the second, but NMJC added to their total in the bottom half with a 2-run shot into center field by Lachlan Maude that made the score 10-1 after two. The Mustangs scored three runs in the third and one run in the fourth to bring the deficit to 10-5.

Felix Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth that made the score 11-5 T-Birds. NMJC scored four runs in the fifth to run rule the Mustangs 15-5.     

Freshman Peyton Pierce hit two solo homers in the first going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBIs, and a walk. First baseman Julius Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored.

Left fielder Felix Rodriguez finished with a double, a homer, and four RBIs. Right fielder Tanner Carranza was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Ricardo Rojas threw 2.1 innings allowing four earned and nine hits in the start. Moises Lamon came in relief going 2.2 innings allowing one hit, one earned run, and striking out four.

The Thunderbirds finished with 12 hits and two errors after allowing 11 hits on the day.

NMJC moves to 9-6 on the season and will travel to Odessa College for a 9-inning game Monday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. CST in Odessa, TX.
