NMJC Falls to Yavapai

NMJC men's basketball suffered their first loss of the season 56-51 to the Yavapai Roughriders.

Yavapai came into the game looking for their first win of the season after falling to Midland the day prior.

The T-Birds trailed at the break 25-22. The Thunderbirds regained the lead with a two-point bucket from Logan McLaughlin with 9:01 left in the game. NMJC would cling to a 51-48 lead with 2:32 to go after a pair of free throws from Jeremiah Cherry.

The Roughriders would then go on an 8-0 run in the final 1:31 to close out the game 56-51.

Freshman forward Ikenna Ude-Smith scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Logan McLaughlin finished with eight points and six rebounds. 

Sophomore forward Lewis Rowe recorded eight points. Sophomore guard Cameron Kimble added seven points in the contest.

The T-Birds were 14-for-51 (27.5%) from the field and shot 4-of-23 (17.4%) from the three-point line in the loss.

The Thunderbirds fall to 2-1 on the season. NMJC will hit the road and face Trinity Valley in the East West Challenge Friday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. CDT in Plano, TX.
