Sophomore guard Logan McLaughlin scored a career-high 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists on 7-of-12 shooting including five three-pointers in the 77-68 loss to Cochise at the Wrangler Shootout on Sunday.
The T-Birds trailed by only two points at the half 34-32, but were outscored in the second half 43-36.
Sophomore guard Micah Jones nailed a jumper with 7:47 left in the second half to give the T-Birds the lead 57-55. This was NMJC's first lead since the four minute mark in the first half. Jones finished the afternoon with 21 points and five rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting from three.
The T-Birds trailed 67-64 with 2:48 left, but McLaughlin turned the ball over leading to a fast break layup. NMJC was unable to cut the lead back to a one possession game and ultimately fell 77-68.
Sophomore forward Magok Manyang added seven points in the loss to the Apaches.
The Thunderbirds shot 27-of-59 (45.8%) from the field and were 11-for-25 (44%) from the three-point line in the loss. The T-Birds forced 16 turnovers, but struggled from the free throw line going 3-for-7 (42.9%).
The T-Birds drop to 3-5 on the season. NMJC will play Otero College in the Collin County Classic Friday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. CDT in Plano, Texas.
