T-Birds Fall Late to Plainsmen

NMJC men's basketball fell in a heartbreaker late to Frank Phillips College 63-62 Monday night.

Sophomore guard Cameron Kimble had a chance to win the game in the final seconds but his left wing three came up short as time expired. 

The first half featured seven lead changes. The T-Birds trailed by five points in the final minute of play before closing the half out on a 5-0 run to tie up the score 41-41.

NMJC trailed by nine points, 62-51, with 5:30 left in the second half. The T-Birds closed out the game on a 11-1 run, ultimately coming a point shy in the 63-62 loss to Frank Phillips.

Jeremiah Cherry nearly registered his eighth double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. 

Micah Jones finished the night with 12 points and two made three-pointers. Jones is now No. 3 all-time in single-season three-point makes with 84. The sophomore guard trails the all-time single-season three-point leader Ken Sims by eight (92).

Guard Logan McLaughlin finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Kimble added 12 points in the loss to the Plainsmen. 

The T-Birds shot 19-of-47 (40.4%) from the field, 4-for-19 (21.1%) from the three-point line, and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe.

NMJC drops to 12-17 overall and 5-10 in conference. The T-Birds will finish the season at home on Thursday, March 2 against Clarendon College. 

The Thunderbirds will be celebrating Homecoming and Sophomore Night on Thursday with the Sophomore Night festivities starting 15 minutes prior to the 7:30 p.m. MDT tip.
