Sophomore guard Logan McLaughlin was the only Thunderbird to finish in double figures with 10 points in the 88-46 loss to Midland College Thursday night.
The game started out competitive with the score tied at 10 apiece with 15:00 minutes left in the first half. Midland's Keonte Jones hit a jumper with 6:31 remaining to make the score 30-20.
This finished off a sequence where the Chaps outscored the T-Birds 20-10 over the course of eight and half minutes of play. The T-Birds trailed at half by 16 points, 42-26.
The second half was a struggle for the Thunderbirds. The Chaps stretched the lead out to as many as 45 points. NMJC was outscored 46-20 in the second half as they fell 88-46 on the road in Midland.
Center Jeremiah Cherry netted nine points and grabbed seven boards. Forward Antwaun Massey finished with eight points and six rebounds.
The T-Birds shot 15-of-54 (27.8%) from the field, 4-for-18 (22.2%) from the three-point line, and 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the charity stripe.
The Thunderbirds drop to 10-14 on the year and 3-7 in conference. NMJC will play Western Texas College Monday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. MDT in Hobbs, NM.
