The Thunderbirds earned their 12th straight win to start the season on Saturday afternoon with a 97-38 win over the University of Arkansas Cossatot.
The No. 2 T-Birds are tied for their highest ranking in school history and are one win away from tying the longest win streak in program history. The 13-game win streak was set all the way back in 1986-87.
NMJC got off to a blistering start to begin the game. The Thunderbirds scored the first 17 points and held Arkansas Cossatot to just nine points in the first half. The T-Birds led at the half by 40 points, 49-9.
The beginning of the second half went the way of the T-Birds as they started with a 24-5 run to make the score 73-14 with 11:57 to go in the game. The Colts did have some success offensively the final 10 minutes of the game however it did not make much of a dent in the final score. The T-Birds easily cruised to their 12th win of the season and stayed undefeated with a 59-point win over Arkansas Cossatot.
Redshirt sophomore Isaiah Alexander finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Victor Ezeh finished with a career-high 12 points off the bench. Armon Jarrard and Michael Mackey made it to double figures with 10 points. Rodrigo Farias added four assists and Garrison Phelps made his debut on Ron Black Court grabbing a career-high nine rebounds.
The T-Birds shot 29-of-62 (46.8%) from the field, 13-of-35 (37.51%) from the 3-point line, and 26-of-36 (72.2%) from the free throw line. The Thunderbirds forced 27 turnovers and held the Colts to 25.5% from the field and 19% from three-point land.
The T-Birds move to 12-0 on the season and will play Ranger College Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 4 p.m. CST in Ranger, Texas.
