NMJC men's basketball downed Ranger College 78-58 for the second-consecutive game on Jan. 2.

The Thunderbirds won the last contest against Ranger on Dec. 11 by a score of 91-83. The 14th win of the season marks the best start in program history and longest win streak in school history. The previous school record for wins (13) was set in 1986-87 and 1994-95.

The T-Birds pulled off the wire-to-wire victory on Thursday afternoon against the Rangers behind an impressive performance from sophomore Amhad Jarrard who finished with 17 points and five rebounds.

The Rangers were trying to stay in striking distance in the second half and even cut the lead to five points, 50-45, with 12 minutes to play. However, NMJC pulled away in the final 12 minutes of the game outscoring Ranger 28-13 the rest of the way.

Sophomore Armon Jarrard finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Guard Jannoy Thomas posted 10 points and five rebounds. Jayden Spearman tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore wing Isaiah Alexander ended the game with seven rebounds.

The T-Birds shot 29-for-72 (40.3%) from the field, 7-of-35 (20.0%) from the 3-point line, and 13-of-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line. The Thunderbirds forced 21 turnovers, outscored the Ranger bench 38-20, and held the Rangers to 37.3% from the field.

The T-Birds move to 14-0 on the season and will play South Plains College Monday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. CST in Levelland, Texas.
