NMJC (MBB) Drops Road Contest to Midland

NMJC men's basketball dropped a road contest to Midland College 78-68 on Monday night.

The Thunderbirds led narrowly 18-17 midway through the first half following a Jayden Spearman 3-pointer with 9:17 to go in the half. Midland caught fire and went on a 20-2 run to make the score 37-20 with 3:35 to go. NMJC ended the half on a good note scoring six straight points to put the score at 37-26.

The T-Birds pulled within one point, 41-40, after another three-point bucket by Jayden Spearman with 13:30 left in the game. The Chaps took a 10-point lead 55-45 after a scoring spurt. NMJC could not muster another comeback and went on to fall 78-68.       

Wing Isaiah Alexander went 2-for-2 from the 3-point land to finish with 16 points and five rebounds.

Armon Jarrard posted 12 points and a career-high of 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jayden Spearman recorded 12 points and six rebounds.

The T-Birds shot 22-for-70 (31.4%) from the field, 9-of-30 (30.0%) from the 3-point line, and 15-of-20 (75.0%) from the free throw line.

The Thunderbirds are No. 6 in the WJCAC standings at 2-3 behind first place Midland College who sits at 4-0.

The No. 5 T-Birds fall to 16-3 (2-3) and will face No. 15 Frank Phillips College 15-3 (3-1) in Hobbs, NM on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. MST.
