Matthis Lefèvre Earns School Record Ninth Victory

The NMJC golf team finished runner-up to host Midland College at the TankLogix Collegiate. The Thunderbirds shot a 54-hole total of 830 (-22) to fall by four strokes to the Chaps (-26).

T-Bird sophomore golfer Matthis Lefèvre continues to rewrite the NMJC golf record book as he won his ninth collegiate tournament Tuesday, March 14 in Andrews, Texas. 

The Frenchman shot 9-under (69-67-68) to post a three-round total of 204 at Andrews Golf Club. Lefèvre's final round included two birdies, one bogey, and an eagle. The eagle Tuesday afternoon tied Lefèvre with Jordan Ayre for most eagles in a Thunderbird career (13). Lefèvre's first-place finish was one shot in front of runner-up Jack Cubitt of Midland. 

Lefèvre is No. 1 in adjusted scoring average across junior college with a 70.06. Lefèvre has finished in the Top 4 in eight straight tournaments and has won four times in the 2022-23 season. He is one win away from tying his own school record of five victories he set last season.

Sophomore Tim Chan is solidifying his role in the Top 3 of the Thunderbird lineup. Chan finished the tournament tied for fourth for the third consecutive week. The Hong Kong native was 6-under par in Andrews shooting 73-66-68 for a two-day total of 207. 

Freshman Travis Robbie shot a 2-under par two-day total of 211 (69-74-68) to finish in a tie for 11th place. The Aussie has finished in the Top 15 in every tournament so far this spring. 

Will Green posted his second tournament under par with a 1-under three-round total of 212. The Englishman shot 74-69-69 to finish in a tie for 13th in Andrews. The freshman has placed in the Top 15 four out of five times this semester.  

Oskar Blomdahl rounded out the team scoring for the T-Birds with a consistent 3-over par 54-hole total of 216 (72-72-72). The freshman finished the tournament in a tie for 25th.

Sophomore individual Carson Hackmann also finished in a tie for 25th. The Montana native was 3-over par shooting 74-73-69 for a three-round total of 216. 

Freshman individual Jono Boediman's impressive play has continued this week with an even-par 54-hole total of 213. Boediman shot 74-68-71 to finish in 17th place. The Australian has finished in the Top 20 in his last five tournaments this season.

Freshman individual Perry Bucay placed 20th overall with a 2-over par two-day total of 215. Bucay shot 77-71-67 to post his best result since his tie for 17th at the Odessa Invitational in November.

Sophomore individual Diego Cruza shot a three-round total of 219 (77-70-72) The Spaniard was 6-over par and finished in a tie for 34th place. 

The tournament in Andrews represents the first of three stages of the WJCAC Championship. The T-Birds have three players in the Top 10 for the individual standings (Lefèvre (1st), Chan (T4th), and Robbie (9th). 

NMJC is second in the WJCAC Championship standings behind Midland by four shots. Stage two will be held in Brownwood, Texas April 13-14 and the final stage will be in College Station April 24-25.

The Thunderbirds remain ranked No. 1 in the March 22 release of the Golfstat rankings. The T-Birds have either won or finished in the Top 3 in all five tournaments so far in the spring season.  

NMJC's next tournament will be the Southwest Championship at The Hideout in Brownwood, Texas April 13-14.
