
T-Bird (M-Golf) Places 3rd in Ruidoso
Thunderbird men's golf team placed third at the High Country Shootout on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The T-Birds were 29-under par over 54 holes for a total of 835 (280-280-275).
Midland College and Odessa College won the tournament at 55-under par. Adam Bresnu of Odessa College and Jorge Parada of South Mountain CC won the tournament individually at 18-under par.
Elias Pettersson earned his way back into the lineup this week with his performance in Waco. Pettersson continued his solid form with a T-9 finish in Ruidoso, NM. The Swede shot 64-72-69 to finish the tournament at 11-under.
Englishman Henry Drake was even through the first two rounds on Day 1 with consecutive 72s. Drake came alive in the final round recording a 6-under 66 to place T-22 at 6-under par.
Freshman Oliver Ruutu also finished T-22 at the High Country Shootout. Ruutu was 6-under with rounds of 72-67-71. Sophomore Andrew Park shot 5-under for the tournament placing T-27 with rounds of 72-70-69. Nick Friedrichsen couldn't get things rolling in his 54 holes at The Links at Sierra Blanca. Friedrichsen shot 73-71-76 to finish at 4-over.
Individual Jake Yrene had a superb week on the course in Ruidoso. The Albuquerque, NM native tied for ninth at 11-under as he recorded all three rounds in the 60s this week (69-69-67).
PJ Herron was another individual who was productive this week at the shootout. Herron shot 9-under tying for 16th place. The freshman posted two rounds in the 60s going 67-71-69 over the span of 54 holes. Jan Porchet finished T-31st shooting 3-under par for the tournament with rounds of 74-68-71.
Freshman Paul Noel tied for 44th place at 3-over par. Noel finished the 54 holes with rounds of 74-72-73. Alfie Mellor had a tough first two rounds in Ruidoso posting scores of 78-76. Mellor rebounded in the final round with a 1-under 71 to finish T-57 at 9-over.
The T-Birds will take a few weeks off to rest and then will resume the fall season in Las Cruces, NM at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Oct. 14-15.
