
NMJC (M-Golf) Finishes 10th at Midwestern State Invitational
The T-Bird men's golf team (+51) placed 10th at Midwestern State Invitational on Tuesday, March 25.
The Thunderbirds shot 51-over at the Wichita Falls CC (par-71) which was 46 shots behind the winner Midwestern State (+5). The Thunderbirds were the third best junior college team in the field trailing second place Odessa College at 9-over and third place Midland College at 14-over.
Elias Pettersson led the way for the Thunderbirds out on the course this week. The sophomore shot 73-72-75 over 54 holes to finish at 7-over for the tournament and place T-19.
Freshman PJ Herron slotted in at the No. 2 slot in the lineup with his T-46 finish. Herron went 76-75-76 to shoot 14-over for the tournament. Henry Drake opened his first 36 holes with a 79-78 before closing the final round with a 1-over 72. The sophomore Englishman finished T-51 at 16-over.
Jake Yrene fired an impressive opening-round 72 but faltered in the second round shooting a 13-over 84. Yrene rebounded in his final round shooting 76 to finish at 19-over and in a tie for 63rd. Oliver Ruutu didn't have it this week in Wichita Falls. The freshman shot 81-79-80 in 54 holes to place 76th overall at 27-over.
The T-Birds next tournament is April 7-8 at the Battle at Riverhill in Kerrville, Texas at Riverhill Country Club.
