NMJC (M-Golf) Finishes 5th in Kerrville

NMJC men's golf shot 12-over to finish in fifth place at the Battle at Riverhill on Tuesday, April 8.

The Thunderbirds 12-over at the Riverhill CC (par-72) was 39 shots behind the winner St. Mary's (-27). NMJC led Odessa by four shots after 36 holes and were 13 shots ahead of Midland College before a disappointing 20-over 308 in the final round. 

Midland shot a final-round 289 and Odessa shot a 299 to tie for second with each other at 6-over.

Freshman PJ Herron tied for fifth place in Kerrville, Texas. Herron fired a 69-72-73 to shoot 2-under par at the tournament. The finish matches his best of the season from March at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational.  

Jake Yrene shot 3-over to finish in a tie for 17th place. Yrene went 72-69 in his first two rounds and then shot a final-round 6-over 78 to end the tournament at 3-over par. Henry Drake was even through his first 36 holes following rounds of 73-71. The Englishman faded in the final round shooting an 8-over 80 to place T-34 at 8-over for the tournament.   

Sophomore Elias Pettersson placed T-36 this week with a 76-72-77 to post 9-over at the Battle at Riverhill. Nick Friedrichsen opened with a 2-under 70 but closed 79-83 to shoot 16-over and finish T-55.  

Paul Noel was the lone individual in the field for the T-Birds. Noel shot 76-78-76 to place T-48 at 14-over. 

The T-Birds next tournament is the Region V Championship April 14-15 at Quicksand GC in San Angelo, Texas.
