T-Birds Ready for Indoor National Meet

The New Mexico Junior College track and field teams gear up for the 2023 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 3-4 at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.

The Thunderbird men are ranked No. 2 behind South Plains in the USTFCCCA NJCAA Men's Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index. NMJC finished in 11th place at the 2022 Indoor Track and Field Championships behind winner South Plains College.

The men have amassed 30 national qualifying standards over 15 events.

The T-Birds have seven athletes ranked in the Top 3 nationally in their respective events with Takudzwa (Donald) Chiyangwa (3), Tapiwanashe (Carlie) Makarawu (3), and Kelsey Daniel (2) all ranked multiple times in the Top 3.  

The T-Bird women are ranked No. 1 in the country according to the USTFCCCA NJCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index. NMJC came in second place to Iowa Western Community College last year at the 2022 Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Thunderbirds have garnered 41 national qualifying marks over 17 events.

The T-Birds have six athletes ranked in the Top 3 nationally in their respective events with Calisha Taylor (3), Lacarthea Cooper (3), Deshana Skeete (3), Letlhogonolo Magoro (3), and Damaris Chewon (2) ranked multiple times in the Top 3.
