NMJC Men's XC Wins Second Straight Race

The New Mexico Junior College men's cross country team had another strong performance this week at the Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open 5k finishing in first place with 41 points. 

German Vega was the top finisher for the T-Birds with a time of 14:51.05. Vega's second-place finish marked the seventh time in his career he has placed in the top 3 of a cross country event.

The competition has been fierce between the Vega brothers with Tomas winning the first event of the season at the Western Texas College Open. Tomas Vega did not best his brother German this round. The sophomore finished in third place with a time of 14:54.22.  

Alex Keter was the third runner to cross the line for the T-Birds. The sophomore finished in 11th place with a time of 15:15.53. 

Freshman Wilson Navarrete ran the 5k in 15:17.01 to complete the race in 12th place. Freshman Miguel Medina was the final scorer for the T-Birds in 13th place (15:20.93).

The T-Birds beat New Mexico, UTEP, Western New Mexico, and New Mexico State.

Paul Maurer was the sixth runner for the Thunderbirds. The freshman came in 21st place (15:50.35). Sophomore Marc Pauvert ended the 5k in 31st place with a time of 16:04.25. Freshman Cyprien Bille finished in 51st Place (17:06.90).

The T-Birds next race will be Friday, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. CDT in Lubbock, Texas at the LCU Cross Country Course.
