NMJC (MXC) Wins 2nd Meet of the Season

The NMJC men's cross country team won the NMJC Invitational 8k on Friday, Sept. 20 in Hobbs, NM.

The Thunderbirds scored 29 points in the victory to finish nine points ahead of Texas Tech and 34 points in front of Wayland Baptist.

Mohammed Mrahi was the top performer for the Thunderbirds Friday morning. Mrahi finished as the runner-up in the 8k with a personal-best time of 24:15.20, which was over a minute quicker than what he ran at the Texas Tech Invitational.

Freshman Brian Cheruiyot came in third place in the race crossing the line in 25:03.50. The time was 29.12 seconds faster than his previous race in Lubbock.

Killian LeBourhis was a spot behind his teammate Cheruiyot in fourth place with a time of 25:06.40. The Frenchman's race was a 1:18.97 better than the previous weeks' time. Paul Maurer came through the finish line in ninth place. The sophomore ran a time of 25:42.30 to improve by 1:14.50 compared to his last time out.

Emmanuel Kimaiyo was the fifth and final runner to count for the team score. Kimaiyo placed 11th with a time of 26:00.00. The finish was 24.61 seconds faster than what he ran at Texas Tech.

Freshman Cyrus Kimaiyo came in 13th place with a time of 26:29.00, which was 51.30 seconds better than last week. Romain Gireme placed 14th with a time of 26:41.90. The time was 1:54.68 faster than last week.

Freshman Erwan Darrieulat was one spot behind in 15th place finishing in 26:44.90. Darrieulat improved his time by 1:15.12. Nathan Bonavida was the final runner across the line in 28:19.90 to place 24th and finish 1:50.26 faster than the previous week.

The Thunderbirds will compete next at the NMJC Invitational II on Friday, Sept. 27 at 5:45 p.m. MDT in Hobbs, NM at Harry McAdams Park.
